SEBASTIAN HAAS
With a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, the artist’s sculptural reverse glass paintings combine the unpredictability of glass with precise element setting. His work explores the ambivalence between abstraction and figuration, experimenting with a pared-down style that invites viewers to discover recognizable forms in unexpected ways. Citing the painter by Giorgio de Chirico, a forerunner of Surrealism known for his perspectival urban landscapes, Sebastian Haas’s artworks present a contemporary, dystopian reinterpretation of these metaphysical spaces. The artist also draws on the philosophy of Byung-Chul Han, whose "society of fatigue" theory describes Western people in the 21st century as introspective beings, grappling with burnout and and other nervous diseases. Building on his earlier grayscale-focused works, Sebastian Haas deepens and broadens his artistic exploration, introducing a wider color spectrum, creating a story with an open ending, yet one that wants to be discovered and told to the end.
